Trigger, Happy: a portrait of the artist as a young piñata
"Life is like stepping into a boat that is about to sail out to the sea and sink." ~Zen Proverb

Foreword In the last week of October 2013, I was idling on Twitter with pal Jkn. We got to talking about life, coffee, dogs, and a project to write and record a whole album in a month. I mean, a whole album in a month. Holy hell-crackers did that sound like an interesting proposition, and with right speed did I jump verily on that shizzle and never looked back.

Artist Note: "Pal Jkn" is John, from the netlabel Relaxed Machinery. rM went on to release Trigger, Happy in October 2015 - you can see the release page for the finished article here. It's funny how life works out, isn't it?

About These Demos

"2012-2013 has been both a hideous and divine year for me. For each track in this collection, I was thinking of a period of time - a week, a month, a morning - and the experience of that time. Some of the pieces here are representations of how I felt at that time. Some are reflections on how things have changed since. Some are what I choose to remember, instead of how it happened.

Starting these pieces - as lame and unready as they may be - has been so cathartic, I can't be mad I didn't finish quite on time, I can't be disgruntled because work got in the way, or my mixing skills take too long to warm up. I'm just dying to finish these. They've helped put the year to bed.

What surprised me the most - and I couldn't have predicted this - was how hopeful these sound together.

Wouldn't it be nice to think that this last trip around the sun was worth it in the end?"
